The volume and variety of information available from network information services have been increasing steadily. User's satisfaction with a network information service depends highly on the quality of a network information retrieval (NIR) system used to retrieve information. Current NIR systems suffer from certain shortcomings which could be resolved by applying certain improvements to architecture of NIR systems and to document description. In this talk I would like to concentrate mainly on document semantics specification problem, but I will also mention other related problems. The solution to these problems should make document presentation more amenable to automation and improve document search results, especially the precision.
